Brief Introduction

Prof. Sun Kwok was the founding director of the Laboratory for Space Research and Chair Professor of Space Science at the University of Hong Kong. He previously served as President of Commission of Astrobiology (2015-2018) and President of Commission 34 (interstellar Matter) of the International Astronomical Union.

Prof. Kwok is best known for his theory on the formation of planetary nebulae. His current interest is on the synthesis of complex organics during the late stages of stellar evolution. His recent books include Origin and Evolution of Planetary Nebulae (Cambridge, 2000), Cosmic Butterflies (Cambridge, 2001), Physics and Chemistry of the Interstellar Medium, (University Science Books, 2006), Organic Matter in the Universe (Wiley, 2011), Stardust: the cosmic seeds of life (Springer, 2013), and Our Place in the Universe (Springer, 2017).
